GP's, majority independent but in contract with the NHS

In the United Kingdom, the distinction is not made so much with regard to the status of doctors (liberal / hospital) as with regard to their specialty. General practitioners work in health centers, often multidisciplinary, of the NHS. About 85% of them, self-employed, have signed a service contract with the NHS. They are paid directly by the State *, depending on the number of patients they take care of as treating physicians. They can develop a private activity (such as for example dermatological, osteopathic or aesthetic care not covered by the NHS) but only for patients for whom they are not the attending physician. They receive an average of 116,000 euros per year, including private practices.

The remaining 15% of general practitioners have concluded an employment contract: they are employees of an independent general practitioner or of a health center.
